Grow Smarter with New Season of ‘Backyard Farmer’ Starting April 3

LINCOLN, Neb. (March 20, 2025) – “Backyard Farmer” is back for its 73rd season to help gardeners and lawn care enthusiasts keep their landscapes healthy and thriving. The new season premieres at 7 p.m. CT, Thursday, April 3 on Nebraska Public Media.

Host Kim Todd, Nebraska Extension landscape horticulture specialist, joins a panel of Nebraska Extension experts and other horticulture professionals to answer viewer questions about insect pests, plant diseases, lawn care, fruits and vegetables, and landscape design.

This season, the “Backyard Farmer” team will bring back sample presentations, where panelists showcase insects, turf issues, products or a diseased plant to help viewers identify and solve common lawn and garden problems.

There also are plans for a remote episode recorded in north central Nebraska and at the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island in August.

The longest running, locally produced television series in the nation, “Backyard Farmer” airs on Nebraska Public Media Thursdays at 7 p.m. through September. It repeats at 10 a.m. CT Saturdays on Nebraska Public Media and at 4 p.m. Sundays and 5 p.m. Mondays on Create.
